Ever since the chat was created by the Jubii ChatTeam back in 1998 we have welcomed children onto the chat. We have always been proud to operate as a family friendly chat, keeping the chat safe and friendly for users of all ages.
That being said, over the last few years we have noticed our ratio of children:adults change dramatically. We rarely get children register to use the chat anymore, and when they do, some of them are people trying to pretend to be underage who we swiftly remove, and the others don't stay for very long at all.
Whilst we've always been keen to cater for these users who want to use the chat safely, in order to do this, we have to place heavy restrictions on our adult users. This includes restrictions on swearing, flirting and even in the adult rooms, sexual chat. For many years you have been saying to us that you find the community far too strict, and don't feel like you can act like an adult. We have always agreed, but until now, we've wanted to remain a family friendly chat.
The time has come where we have realised that the restrictions we need to place on adults are too strict and the negatives of such restrictions outweigh the positives. We have such a tiny (really really tiny) amount of active chatters who are under 16, that placing restrictions on adults just for that small chatter base, no longer seems appropriate.
Therefore, from this moment forward, ONLY chatters aged 16 and over will be permitted to register for the chat.
- Those aged under 16 and are already registered will be permitted to remain, but will ONLY be allowed to chat on the Youth Deck until they are old enough.
- Those aged 16-17 will be able to chat in all rooms EXCEPT those on the Adult Deck.
- Chatters aged 18 and over will be able to chat everywhere except the Youth Deck.
- Once all our younger chatters reach 16, we will remove the Youth Deck.
With this, from this moment on, our rules and restrictions have been relaxed. We have also changed the way the Lift and Decks look so that it's easier to understand how our new rules are going to work.
There are going to be 3 categories of rules, and each deck on the lift will have a rule category assigned to it.
Adult/Dating - Moderate swearing, flirting and open sex chat is permitted.
These rules will be applied to rooms on the ADULT DECK only (18's and over).
Normal - Moderate swearing and flirting/inuendos is permitted.
These rules will be applied to rooms on every other deck not mentioned (16's and over).
Clean - Rules remain the same.
These rules will be applied to rooms on the YOUTH DECK only (under 18's only).
We have also removed about 75% of the words from the swear/badword filter. This will allow you to appropriately use words that you have previously been prevented from using. This being said, any highly offensive or discriminatory words will remain, in addition to the C**T swear word. We will also continue to disallow abuse towards other chatters. We are making these rule changes to treat you like adults, that does not include openly being offensive, discriminatory or abusing other users. Anyone who attempts to bypass our newly relaxed badword filter will still be dealt with the same way by navigators. We understood why people did it before, but now it's been relaxed, there should be no need to try to bypass it.
The rules on photo albums and uploads will remain the same. This is not a porn site, and most of our users do not want to see pornography here.
We hope you understand the reasons for making these changes. The restrictions being placed on children will negatively affect about 0.5% of our chatters. However, the relaxtion of the rules will positively affect 99.5% of you. You've told us that you treat us as a community, but feel we're too strict - the time has now come - enjoy it.
Just to remind you.... the YOUTH DECK is for under 18's only and the same rules as now apply. Every other deck will have normal rules, where 75% of the filter is removed and you can have banter, be flirtatious and moderate swearing is allowed (not excessive). However, the ADULT DECK, we will permit open sex chat.
The prevention of children registering has been an international decision and will affect all 8 of our chats. However, a couple of chats have made the age 18's and over, as that's their local age of consent. Here on the UK, 16's and over are permitted to register.
