Assistant Navigator Applications

14/01/2022 16:41 Written by Shadow_X

Hello Chatters,

In the coming weeks, we are looking to appoint new assistant navigators.

We especially welcome applicants that are available during UK daytime or late at night, we do not particularly need evening Navigators at the moment.  However please apply even if you don't fit this time frame if you can bring something to the team, however priority will be given to those that meet our time requirements.

As navigator you are the first port of call for chatters. You are there to make others feel welcome, answer questions about how to do something on Chat and to assure Chat is a fun and friendly place for all users.

Please read following completely before applying.

What do we expect :

- You have good communication skills and plenty of patience;

- You can work in a team structure that is based on a ranking system which you respect;

- You can deal with constructive criticism;

- You are an active chatter for at least 2 months on applying and are using your correct personal details and own images, you are required to have a photochat picture of yourself;

- You are able and willing to keep confidential information to yourself;

- You have no alternative motive to join, but to be helpful to other users;

- You are available for a minimum of 8 hours per week, spread across 4 or more days;

- You have completed all Chat Quests and know the basics on how to use Chat;

- You have a (mostly) clean chat record;

- You have to have some sense.

For further information about what is expected of our navigators, please scroll down the page to the section titled "Being a navigator".

How to apply....

If by now you are still reading and interested, then Shipmail your application to both Shadow_X and kel-x.

Please list what part of the day you are likely to be available to navigate; what you think is needed to be a Navigator and why you feel you'd be an asset to our Team.

The ability to private message at a low rank.

29/12/2021 20:29 Written by Shadow_X

Happy Holidays.

As I am sure many of you are aware we did an update that changed the rank that you could private message, to make it so you would need to be Ordinary Seaman or above to private message someone.

We do take all feedback on board and have listened to what many have said, although in general most are happy with the change, a lot of the issue was about not being able to pm your friends.

We have made a change to the system, you still need to be Ordinary Seaman to be able to pm, but if your friend is at the previous pm rank of VIP Passenger 4 or higher, you will still be able to pm them.

This still allows new chatters time to get used to chat without being bombarded with pm's, but also allows you to speak to your friends.  They have to have been added as a friend for this to work though, you can't just say they are a friend, the system has to know this.

We will review all these changes in a few weeks and make any additional tweaks if need be.

Any questions then speak to a Navigator

Your friendly chief Team.

Changes to Private Messages

29/12/2021 09:01 Written by Kel-x

Many will recall, a while ago a change was made to the level of rank you had to reach before being able to send a Private Message (PM) to another chatter. The rank needed was VIP Passenger Level 4.

The change was introduced as a means to reduce the amount of PMs a new chatter would encounter as soon as they entered a room allowing space to explore chat fully before being ready for PM chat.

As time has moved on and listening to feedback from many, it’s been identified this rank was still too low and so has now been increased.

Now, chatters have to be at the rank of Ordinary Seaman to be able to send and receive PMs (those using an Ad Blocker will still be unable to PM).

We appreciate this change may be a bit of a surprise to some but, for the regular chatter, this rank is still easily achievable which shouldn't impact too much on how you use chat.  Hopefully, overall it will be an improved experience for everyone on board.

IE Wintery Filters/Christmas themed (Seasonal pictures can only be uploaded in December, and must be removed by 7th January 2022). We will be awarding text effects and other emotes at random to those that take part in the Photochat event.

This isn't all though, if you look at ChatGames profile. We have asked 12 famous people to dress up as santa for our seasonal game. All you have to do is figure out who we've asked by sending a shipmail to ChatGames with all of the names by 11:59pm on the 25th of December, everyone who entered will be in a pot depending on if they got all the answers right or not and drawn at random to win a prize.

Here is a clue to each one:
Santa A - Racer - This champion had some mighty red steeds.

Santa C - Wrestler - Granite isn't harder than this dude.
Santa D - Singer - This girl is the only one in the world and she needs an umbrella.

Santa L - Billionaire - Even at Christmas, Cranberry isn't his favourite fruit.

Good luck and from all the Navigators, we wish you a pleasant festive season. Whatever you do this winter, we hope you can make the most of it and stay safe. Chat will be here to escape the festivities for a bit.

From your Jingle Belled Events Team.

Winter is here!

30/11/2021 10:04 Written by dominic_2005

Ahoy passengers and crew.

The winter season is finally upon us. Well, it has been for some time now, but we mean it is December!

That means things start to get glitzy on the Chat. This year, there are a few changes.

The first one you will notice, is the wreath is gone! Well, not gone, but low profiled. It still works the same way, the top left icons change its transparency and you can still click on it to hide it to the left.

Brand New Quest

We also have a brand new quest this year. You will still be hunting for a bauble each day in the Chat. But now, instead of cluttering up space in your window and forgetting where you put them, they will now go on your very own Christmas tree.

Located in the Logbook, you can decorate it how you wish, and best of all, it will remember where you put them. Even has a snazzy animation into position when you revisit the page.

Each time you find a Bauble in the Chat, visit this page to activate it, and it will show up at the top. Simply click/tap to drag it onto the tree.

The baubles will appear somewhere in the Chat from the 1st December, and there will be a new one to find each day.

Collect enough and you will win a brand new Throw Emote!

Any questions or issues, contact a Navigator.

Going to the chapel and we need your help.....

 Going to the chapel and we need your help.....

Dear Chatters and Crew,

As some of you are aware, chat and our navigators give you the option to have virtual chat ceremonies, so we thought we'd get you involved in some of that behind the scene preparation. When we do the ceremonies. part of that is doing the certificates and sometimes we do invites aswell to show you have been married, adopted etc. So it's time for a little competition.

Below is a few examples of some of the certificates that we use for these ceremonies. We are giving you the chance to design these certificates and invites for your chance to win a prize and the chance to see your designs used as images in these ceremonies.

We have a number of ceremonies that you could design for: Wedding, Adoption, Divorce, Best Friends. You can design for as many ceremonies you like but each category we will pick one overall winner and they will get a prize. All you have to do is design the invite and certificate and then upload it to the ChatVicar's profile.

There is a few requirements:
Maximum sizes for each image is 400x400 and must be under 4mb.
They must not contain any copywrited images: ie No big cola can/Mickey Mouse in the middle of the certificate/invite.

The competition will close on 30th November.

Have fun designing,

The Ceremonies & Events Team

What is a Navigator?

Navigators are chatters who volunteer to spend a lot of time helping out and keeping order on the chat.

The ideal Navigator knows every little secret on the Chat, he or she is extremely patient, both when helping out newbies and when dealing with occasional trouble.

Only very experienced chatters become Navigators, so if you feel like helping others and want to help make the chat a nice place for everyone, it could be just the challenge for you.

How to become a Navigator

Would you like to be a Chat Navigator?

Before answering this question there are some things you should know.

Being a Navigator is not an easy role to fulfil. It is demanding, takes hard work and dedication and a lot of online time. Despite this, it's also great fun. Many navigators much prefer it to being a chatter.

  1. As a navigator you're an ambassador for the Chat. This means that chatters watch everything you say and do. Behave inappropriately, and it gives all Navigators a bad name. Being helpful at all times when on and off watch, shows what a great team we are.
  2. Navigators are the first people new chatters meet and their most important task is to make sure that these newbies have a good experience the first time they are on board.
  3. Some chatters will see it as their job to try to wind you up. If they succeed, they win. If they don't, everyone wins :) Therefore you have to be helpful and patient when people ask you a question. As a Navigator your behaviour should be spotless on the chat at all times.

If you are the kind of person who gets emotional easily, then being a navigator may not be for you. You must be objective always; NEVER taking sides, even when your friends are involved, and always play devils advocate. Never make assumptions.
You must be able to keep confidences, both chatters and other Navigators may come to you with problems. And you will also be the first to find out about new things too – you must be able to keep these things close to your chest! Having the patience of a saint too is necessary! Some chatters take a while to help, and you need to ensure that your personality can cope with these demanding times.

You should also ask yourself, Am I a team player? This is a very important question as the Navigator system can only work with a team spirit. All ranks working together for a common goal.

All this said, being a navigator is very rewarding. Just ask any of our existing Navigators and they will tell you that nothing beats the feeling of when you help a chatter or solve a dispute and receive a huge Thank you.
So, still interested? Then you also need to meet the following criteria.
  1. You must have been a chatter for at least 6 months.
  2. You must have a minimum chat rank of Midshipman (although exceptions may be made by Chiefs).
  3. You must have a clear chat record, with no serious bans/behaviour issues in the last 6 months.
  4. You must also have completed the 5 standard chat quests. /sing, /shout, /whisper, /sleep, /love.

    If you are a former navigator ranked 3rd or above and wish to return to the team on any name, please contact a chief navigator to discuss your options.

If you meet the criteria above, you can apply to become a navigator. Depending on the recruitment needs, you may be approached directly, you may be able to contact a 1st or Chief Navigator and express interest, or you may have to take the exam, or any combination of these. We reserve the right to change the recruitment methods at any time, and this is at the discretion of Chief Navigators.

If you would like to be a navigator, and do not qualify yet, then take this time to get to know everything there is to know about the chat. The more you know, the more you'll be able to help others.

Keep an eye on the bridge for opportunities to join as a navigator!
