Spring Redecoration

14/02/2022 08:02 Written by dominic_2005

Dear Passengers and Crew,

Spring is fast creeping up on us, and with that in mind we have been looking at getting the paint brush out and giving one or two rooms a facelift.

The first one to receive the focus of these efforts is Flirt Lounge.

We're looking for ideas and suggestions on which direction to take this room, so this is your chance to have a say in how your Chat looks.

Any and all ideas will be considered, and possibly merged with others' ideas to come up with a new design.

Ideas can be anything, from simple colour suggestions to images or iconography.

Keep any suggestions or ideas reasonable, nothing x-rated or too far beyond, remember it needs to be something suitable for everyone, and people have different tastes and limits.

So get your thinking caps on and please shipmail any ideas to: ChatGraphics

2022, Will you be my Valentine?

08/02/2022 05:15 Written by Kel-x

Dear loved up chatters & crew,

Love is in the air ... and as we approach the day to spoil your loved ones, to be mushy, to tell someone they are fabulous or the ideal moment to let that special certain someone know how you feel, we have a few things to get you in the mood and are listed below.

The first of these, on Sunday 13th February at 7.01pm is the return of our romantic Valentines Quiz with possible chances to win a prize or two.

Secondly, we have a simple game for you.

In the image below, we have written 10 film titles of romantic films into emojis.  All you need to do is figure out what the title of the film that we're spelling out in emojis and shipmail ChatGames.

We will pick a few winners for possible prizes.

Also, within the next 7 days, we are happy to give you the opportunity to pass on a heartfelt message to another chatter completely anonymously.

Simply send your message in a shipmail to St.Valentine using the shipmail subject box to type out who the message is for and it will be passed on.

A few rules:

#1. All messages will be sent anonymously. Any messages that contain your name, will be removed.
(This is to preserve those who have others on ignore)

#2 All messages that requests the recipient to remove the sender from ignore will be ignored.
(This is to respect those who have others on ignore)

#3 Keep your message polite; any overly sexual or rude messages will be ignored.
(This includes those messages that are abusive in any way.)

Messages coming in after midday on 15th February (to account for time zones) will not be passed on or, if any of the requirements are not met, then your message won't be forwarded.

Lastly, while your here, why not show someone you love by popping the question and arranging a chat wedding ceremony. Look at the few certificates we have for the various ceremonies here and speak to a Navigator about arranging one.

Loving regards,

St.Valentine & the *love*ly events team.

I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

Hello Passengers and Crew,

You are cordially invited to attend the open roast night, this is first event of it's kind on chat and should it prove successful, we plan to host a few of these over the year.

But what is a Roast, I hear you whisper to yourself. A roast is a form of insulting humour, where people are subjected to jokes at their expense intended to amuse a wider audience. The implication is that the roastee(s) are able to take the jokes in good humour and not as serious criticism or insult.

For example: "If your brain was dynamite, there wouldn’t be enough to blow your hat off."

Should you wish to take part in this open roast night, all you have to do is prepare your "roasts" and join us in No Holds Barred on Saturday, 29th January @ 6:00pm GMT, as it's an open roast night if you come into the room while this event taking place, you agree that it is likely that you may be roasted. A few answers to questions I know you may have:

"Isn't this just a ploy for navigators to ban us?" No as with nature with the No Holds Barred room already unless it's a serious rule break, no navigator will act on roasts unless they seriously cross the line, while they are insults they are based in humour.

"What is in it for me?" - Some of the best roasts will be awarded an exclusive to this event text effect, a way to blow off steam ready for all the lovey dovey that February brings and hopefully a laugh or two.

So all you need to do lend us your tongues, taunts and keyboards.

The roast event team

P.S  You may have noticed the Bridge has had a make over, it will show you some Popular chat rooms, explore and have fun.

The ability to private message at a low rank.

29/12/2021 20:29 Written by Shadow_X

Happy Holidays.

As I am sure many of you are aware we did an update that changed the rank that you could private message, to make it so you would need to be Ordinary Seaman or above to private message someone.

We do take all feedback on board and have listened to what many have said, although in general most are happy with the change, a lot of the issue was about not being able to pm your friends.

We have made a change to the system, you still need to be Ordinary Seaman to be able to pm, but if your friend is at the previous pm rank of VIP Passenger 4 or higher, you will still be able to pm them.

This still allows new chatters time to get used to chat without being bombarded with pm's, but also allows you to speak to your friends.  They have to have been added as a friend for this to work though, you can't just say they are a friend, the system has to know this.

We will review all these changes in a few weeks and make any additional tweaks if need be.

Any questions then speak to a Navigator

Your friendly chief Team.

Changes to Private Messages

29/12/2021 09:01 Written by Kel-x

Many will recall, a while ago a change was made to the level of rank you had to reach before being able to send a Private Message (PM) to another chatter. The rank needed was VIP Passenger Level 4.

The change was introduced as a means to reduce the amount of PMs a new chatter would encounter as soon as they entered a room allowing space to explore chat fully before being ready for PM chat.

As time has moved on and listening to feedback from many, it’s been identified this rank was still too low and so has now been increased.

Now, chatters have to be at the rank of Ordinary Seaman to be able to send and receive PMs (those using an Ad Blocker will still be unable to PM).

We appreciate this change may be a bit of a surprise to some but, for the regular chatter, this rank is still easily achievable which shouldn't impact too much on how you use chat.  Hopefully, overall it will be an improved experience for everyone on board.

What is a Navigator?

Navigators are chatters who volunteer to spend a lot of time helping out and keeping order on the chat.

The ideal Navigator knows every little secret on the Chat, he or she is extremely patient, both when helping out newbies and when dealing with occasional trouble.

Only very experienced chatters become Navigators, so if you feel like helping others and want to help make the chat a nice place for everyone, it could be just the challenge for you.

How to become a Navigator

Would you like to be a Chat Navigator?

Before answering this question there are some things you should know.

Being a Navigator is not an easy role to fulfil. It is demanding, takes hard work and dedication and a lot of online time. Despite this, it's also great fun. Many navigators much prefer it to being a chatter.

  1. As a navigator you're an ambassador for the Chat. This means that chatters watch everything you say and do. Behave inappropriately, and it gives all Navigators a bad name. Being helpful at all times when on and off watch, shows what a great team we are.
  2. Navigators are the first people new chatters meet and their most important task is to make sure that these newbies have a good experience the first time they are on board.
  3. Some chatters will see it as their job to try to wind you up. If they succeed, they win. If they don't, everyone wins :) Therefore you have to be helpful and patient when people ask you a question. As a Navigator your behaviour should be spotless on the chat at all times.

If you are the kind of person who gets emotional easily, then being a navigator may not be for you. You must be objective always; NEVER taking sides, even when your friends are involved, and always play devils advocate. Never make assumptions.
You must be able to keep confidences, both chatters and other Navigators may come to you with problems. And you will also be the first to find out about new things too – you must be able to keep these things close to your chest! Having the patience of a saint too is necessary! Some chatters take a while to help, and you need to ensure that your personality can cope with these demanding times.

You should also ask yourself, Am I a team player? This is a very important question as the Navigator system can only work with a team spirit. All ranks working together for a common goal.

All this said, being a navigator is very rewarding. Just ask any of our existing Navigators and they will tell you that nothing beats the feeling of when you help a chatter or solve a dispute and receive a huge Thank you.
So, still interested? Then you also need to meet the following criteria.
  1. You must have been a chatter for at least 6 months.
  2. You must have a minimum chat rank of Midshipman (although exceptions may be made by Chiefs).
  3. You must have a clear chat record, with no serious bans/behaviour issues in the last 6 months.
  4. You must also have completed the 5 standard chat quests. /sing, /shout, /whisper, /sleep, /love.

If you are a former navigator ranked 3rd or above and wish to return to the team on any name, please contact a chief navigator to discuss your options.

If you meet the criteria above, you can apply to become a navigator. Depending on the recruitment needs, you may be approached directly, you may be able to contact a 1st or Chief Navigator and express interest, or you may have to take the exam, or any combination of these. We reserve the right to change the recruitment methods at any time, and this is at the discretion of Chief Navigators.

If you would like to be a navigator, and do not qualify yet, then take this time to get to know everything there is to know about the chat. The more you know, the more you'll be able to help others.

Keep an eye on the bridge for opportunities to join as a navigator!
